School of Humanitarian Studies Prof. Kenneth Christie was interviewed on The Drive with Terry Moore Jan. 15 about the recent terrorist attacks at a Starbucks in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Here is an excerpt:

“We’re seeing a globalization of terrorism in some ways—we’re seeing attacks on urban areas, heavily populated urban areas, we’re seeing attacks on soft targets,” says Christie, who noted this is what happened in Paris, Istanbul and Jakarta.

Christie adds, “Terrorists looking to kill as many people as possible. They’re looking for a spectacular act for the spectacle—that’s what terrorism is all about. That’s why you’re not going to get terrorism in rural areas. You can expect to see more of these attacks in cities in major urban, populated areas.”
