Super Bowl as a cultural spectacle
February 5, 2016
School of Communication and Culture professor and author of Super Bowl: Mythic Spectacle, Michael Real, was interviewed by Terry Moore on CFAX 1070 Feb. 5 about the history and notoriety of the Super Bowl.
Here is an excerpt:
“Football is a very corporate game, with a big corporate culture,” says Real. “CEOs love it because they relate to coaches. It’s physical, violent, like hockey and that’s a source of controversy right now. It’s an incredibly organized game that has a lot of strategy like chess.”
