Under the supervision of the Managing Editor, the Production Officer/Journalist conceives, develops, designs and creates ads for newspaper and other projects, is responsible for design, layout and pagination of newspaper on a weekly basis, and writes stories for publication as required. He/she also maintains and updates the local newspaper and PSP website, as required, and designs and produces business cards, brochures, flyers and other publications and promotional materials. The Production Officer also monitors and maintains newspaper and photographic archival records.

Qualifications:

College Diploma in Graphic Design/Fine Arts or a related field AND some years experience or High School diploma with some experience or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience will also be considered

Language requirement: English Mandatory

Knowledge of

  • creating black and white, colour spot and full-process colour ads
  • page designs for newsprint and magazines, brochures and posters
  • advertising and publishing principles
  • journalism writing styles

Experience in

  • creating and maintaining graphics and desktop publishing
  • using computer software applications for graphic design
  • Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and web content manager software utilizing Macintosh systems
  • newsgathering, and digital photography
  • ad design and page layout
  • pre-press services

Salary: $ 15.70/hr - $ 19.94/hr (subject to evaluation)

Successful candidate will be prepared to commence employment as soon as possible.
