LABOUR RELATIONS MANAGER

The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 19,000 students in the Greater Victoria Area, encompassing five municipalities. To provide this service, the District has a current operating budget of $170 million and employs approximately 2,800 staff; which includes, teachers, principals and vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists and exempt managerial staff.
Reporting to the Director of Human Resource Services, the Labour Relations Manager will deliver a range of professional human resource services with a focus on employee relations, administration of collective agreements, grievance resolution, collective bargaining and arbitration preparation and presentation. This position will also participate in other Human Resource functions such as recruitment and selection.
The successful candidate will have a university degree relating to human resources or labour relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Postgraduate education in labour law would be preferred. A CHRP designation and experience working in the K-12 sector would also be an asset. Essential qualifications include seven or more years’ related human resources experience including at least five years’ experience in labour relations in a complex, unionized environment. A demonstrated track record in negotiations, preparing presentations for arbitrations and establishing effective relationships with unions and associations is fundamental to this position.
