The Organization

World sports leaders, Hockey Canada is the governing body for hockey in Canada and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), with a membership through its 13 provincial branch associations of over700,000 players, coaches and officials. Hockey Canada is a not-for-profit organization that creates leading-edge hockey development programs for its members to deliver in communities across Canada, provides consistent rules and regulations and various other membership services fromcoast to coast, manages numerous regional, national and international hockey championships and events, and leads the operation of all teams that represent Canada in international hockey competition. Hockey Canada’s mission is to “lead, develop andpromote positive hockey experiences.

General Responsibilities:

  • Layout and design of all Hockey Canada publications: Team Canada media guides, Canadian championship event programs, International event programs, and National Women’s Team magazine
  • Layout and design of all Hockey Canada development print projects and Breakaway technical materials
  • Layout and design of all development print pieces for Hockey Canada, such as development brochures and posters, manuals, and other collateral, etc.
  • Layout and design of miscellaneous print projects: logos, posters, game tickets, media kits, hockey cards, print ads, etc.
  • Other communications department projects as required
  • Prepare Hockey Canada business card requests for press as required
  • Fill requests for logos, and photos from Hockey Canada staff and media
  • Creative input to all Hockey Canada communication initiatives, pieces and overall plan
  • Assist with the maintaining of Hockey Canada’s graphic standards and source files library

Detailed Responsibilities:

Yearly Publications Layout and Design:

  • Coordinate, layout and design all technical materials for development and Breakaway, including process and making updates
  • Layout and design all Hockey Canada publications and production of “camera ready” artwork for printers, co-ordination of page plans, event schedules and player profiles and rosters with the communications staff, and co-ordination of advertising with the marketing department
  • Publications include: Team Canada Media Guides: National Junior Team, National Women’s Team and Men’s World Championship, National Championship Event Programs: Esso Cup, TELUS Cup, RBC Cup and international programs
  • Assist with various development and high performance graphic design projects, as directed
  • Logo design and furthering HC brand initiatives


Development Layout and Design:

  • Layout and design, from co-ordination of reception of materials, to diagram development and production of camera ready artwork for development materials such as posters, brochures, manuals, binders and presentations as required by Hockey Canada development department and Breakaway

Other Publications:

  • Under direction of , Director, Creative Services/Brand perform various other communication functions, new initiatives and projects

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of page layout and design programs including: Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to build and design interactive PDF documents
  • Bilingualism in French and English will be considered an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of the print production process and timelines, with at least 2 years experience with the print process
  • Professional training for desk top publishing and graphic design, with a minimum of two years valid work experience
  • Excellent knowledge of MAC platform
  • Production work and design experience
  • Good knowledge of hockey at all levels
  • Excellent ability to work effectively to deadlines
  • Bilingualism (French and English) will be considered an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong planning, organizational skills
  • Creativity with a vision for the future
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings if required, to meet tight deadlines
