Royal Roads' Toastmasters: Communication and Leadership Development Club is now meeting in the castle Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
RRU Toastmasters had a big first year since the club was chartered in June 2012. They hosted a regional club officer training, filled the Quarterdeck for a workshop with world champion speaker Darren Lacroix, and recently hosted international speech and evaluation contests in the castle for a group of seven local clubs. Many people credit their participation in Toastmasters for making a difference in their career. Like many things at RRU: Life.Changing.
Spring/Summer - 7 p.m. Wed evenings in the castle and gardens: If you have been thinking about honing your presentation skills, or want to test drive some leadership strategies, then check out this group. Participation is open to instructors, employees, students, and the public. The club has joined with Vanc Isl Entrepreneurs, another local club, to offer educationally themed evenings from now to the end of August, in the stimulating environment of Hatley Castle and the gardens. The group hopes to incorporate our distributed community and alumni using videoconferencing.
Peer-based practice: Club meetings employ the Toastmasters model for developing communication and leadership skills, where one can experiment in a fun, supportive atmosphere, by giving presentations and receiving constructive evaluation from peers. Toastmasters involves a variety of leadership roles, prepared speeches and impromptu presentations. You will learn how to run an efficient, productive meeting, involve participants and facilitate deep learning.
Royal Roads Toastmasters is one of over 37 such clubs in the Capital Regional District and over 13,000 around the world. Participation from all groups and all skill levels at RRU will ensure a rich, rewarding learning experience.
