Student Services is pleased to welcome Michelle Underdown, the new accessibility co-ordinator.
With the continued support of Darlene Joseph, Michelle will work with faculty, associate faculty and various staff teams to coordinate academic and physical accommodations for students with short-term and permanent disabilities. She will also establish ongoing education and outreach with respect to best practices for working with students who have a disability.
Michelle is a Victoria local, and comes to us from Infocus Rehab Services, where she was working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. During this time she managed a variety of contracts including CanVet Vocational Services, Healthcare Benefits Trust, Work-BC and VIHA’s Brain Injury Program. Michelle has been working in the field of disability services and healthcare since 1996, and received her BA in Sociology, from UBC in 1999, (specializing in the Sociology of Health and Wellness and Science and Technology Studies).
She is settling well into Grant 130 and has already joined the RRU Choir. She also has a weak spot for the Big Bang Theory and salt-water taffy. Please pop by and say hi!
