MA in Professional Communication alumna Carolyn Young, who is director of continuing studies at Western University, recently spoke with the London Free Press about her learning philosophy.

Learning is a life-long process.
That’s the philosophy Carolyn Young lives by — and she practises what she preaches. As the director of continuing studies at Western University, Young not only helps adult students find their footing when they re-enter the classroom, but she’s also walked in their shoes. A mother of three boys, Young has been back in the classroom three times since completing her undergraduate degree in English at Western University’s Huron College in 1982. And she uses her story to inspire others weighing the decision to return to school. “It gives me credibility,” Young said. People will say to me, ‘I have a family and I work full-time,’ and there’s no doubt about it, it’s intense to be back in school in a full-time program and finding the right balance when you have a family and another career, if you have a full-time job.
