Royal Roads is already known for its everyday emphasis on sustainability. Now we have more evidence of our green approach. The Learning and Innovation Centre (LIC) completed in 2011, has achieved the gold rating as part of the LEED® Canada for New Construction certification.
LEED® (which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) recognizes performance in five key areas of human and environmental health, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection, indoor environmental quality. The LIC was built with natural durable materials, careful attention to the site, natural ventilation, and solar panels for hot water. Also 95 per cent of construction waste was diverted from the landfill. Congratulations!
The LIC is one of 14 buildings in Victoria to be certified LEED Gold.
