The project tender has been awarded and we are one week away from the kick-off of renovation work in the Habitat Café. As previously reported, renovation work will require us to close the existing cafeteria space during construction. The LIC Café will expand its seating and food offerings. Behind-the-scenes kitchen operations in Grant will not be directly affected by the work, and will continue to function throughout the project to service catering requests and the LIC Café.
The transition from the existing cafeteria in Grant to a temporary food service space in the LIC Café will begin next week. The following summarizes the continuing food service schedule. Seating capacity in the LIC Café will be expanded, offering a relaxed atmosphere for all members of the RRU community and visitors to gather with friends and enjoy a wide variety of creative, nutritious menu offerings.
Truffles Catering has designed a wide array of menu options that will be prepared daily in the Habitat kitchen and made available in the LIC Café for your convenience. Each morning Monday to Friday (7 to 9 a.m.), a variety of hot breakfast items, cereals, yogurts, smoothies, fruit salad and pastries will be available. For lunch and dinner, choose from a variety of hot entrees that range in price from $5.50 to $8.50. Sandwiches, salads and pizza will also be available. Weekend brunch selections will be available on Saturdays and Sundays (9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) and will include a variety of hot breakfast sandwiches, pastries and beverages. Weekend lunch and dinner menus will feature a variety of hot entrees, salads, sandwiches or microwaveable options. The LIC Café will be a licensed establishment. Watch for weekly menu items and specials to be announced in RoadSpiel. It is currently anticipated that the overall renovation project will be completed in 10 weeks. Regular updates on progress will be circulated as the project unfolds. Based on the preliminary construction plan, it is anticipated that the newly renovated and expanded cafeteria, lounge (Grant 228) and galley (Grant 227) will be open for business in mid-October.
