Hi Keyvan and hello to everyone else!

My name is Tanya and I am very excited to be part of the MAIS program (Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies). I am a certified human resources professional (CHRP) working for a municipality, Pickering Public Library, in the human resources department. Last week I was promoted to the position of Director of Human Resources. Great timing...Yikes! I hope I can keep up with my studies. I've selected several leadership and communication courses as part of my MAIS program. I'm sure that these courses will greatly assist me with decision-making now that my work responsibilities have expanded.  Enjoy the journey everyone!

P.S. It says that I am posting this message at 5am, but I doubt any of us will be posting so early.  I am in the Toronto area and it is 8am over here. Have a great day and a great learning experience! I'm heading to work now.

I am an instructor at the only community college in Calgary, Alberta. I have been at the college since February, 2000 and refer to myself as an accidental instructor.

I started out as a legal assistant and then progressed into corporate computer training which lead to employment at the college. As I grow and expand my duties in this area, a degree is now required which I do not possess. Having a Masters will open up exciting opportunities and provide more career opportunites.

I have a co-worker who is half way through her Masters with RRU, so I have someone at work whom I can call on for assistance and just to have a shoulder to lean on.

All the best to everyone as we start this exciting journey.

Right now, I live in Calgary and lead a safety and regulatory compliance team in the energy industry, in addition to a my leadership coaching practice. I’m in the midst of a period of career and life transition and really enjoying the journey. This is my second program at Royal Roads. I’ve structured my MAIS around leadership and executive coaching with the thesis-exit option.

I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you as we travel through the landscape of interdisciplinary studies. I’m sure we’ll chat more once the courses start, but in the meantime, please connect with me on LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/pub/tom-morin/33/76/a49 .

All the best,

I am from New Westminster and currently work as a Constituency Assistant for an MLA.  I am an avid volunteer, animal lover, writer, and gardener.  I'm taking courses primarily from communications with a few leadership courses and I've chosen the thesis option.  Looking forward to getting to know everyone and starting the program.

My name is Conor MacPhee and I live (currently), in Langley, BC.  I say 'currently', because I am looking to uproot my family and move to Calgary sometime this year.

I have a degree in Criminology and am Board Certified in Crisis Intervention and Acute Traumatic Stress Management.  Of course, none of that really applies to the job I do as a coordinator in community support services, so I'm here to make a change and propel myself in a different direction.

Looking forward to great things ahead!

It is lovely to meet everyone so far.

My name is Darla Benton Kearney and I will be taking my courses from Stoney Creek, Ontario.  I am a mother to toddling twins, a wife, a full-time faculty member at Mohawk College (Hamilton, Ontario), and an avid learner.  I am pleased to be adding ‘student’ again to my list.   I currently hold degrees and post-graduate certificates from McMaster University, the University of Edinburgh and Cambrian College.

For the past 9 ½ years I have been a Learning Strategist/Adaptive Technologist.  In this role I teach and support students who have cognitive impacts related to their disabilities.

The majority of courses I have selected for my MAIS degree are in the Masters of Arts in Learning and Technology.  As Mohawk College has recently implemented a blended learning model for all of its full-time, day program courses, it is my hope that these courses will give me additional insight into developing curriculum and creating effective online learning environments for post-secondary students.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all better and getting started!  Take care and have a great evening

Darla
